Esta tercera semana, yo... / This third week, I...

Entonces, muchos se preguntarán por qué hago la entrada en inglés también, pues resulta que en la primera entrada del blog, dije que iba a usar el inglés y no lo he hecho!!! y ya par de compañeros se han quejado, de que google traduce muy mal, hahaha! así que voy a hacerlo bilingüe para que todos entiendan!

So, many of you may be wondering why do I do this entry also in english, well the thing is that on the first entry of this blog I said I was going to write in english and I haven't done so! And a couple of friends have told me like 'hey, I've seen your blog but I can't understand and google translates pretty bad'. So I'll do it like this so all of you can understand!

Empiezo con los choques culturales de esta semana: Cuando me dicen "ay, que lindos tus aretes!" y yo digo algo así como "a tu orden" y la gente se queda como "qué??!" hahaha! es algo totalmente cultural! y luego les explico algo así como "ahh, es que en mi país se dice esto, bla bla bla".
Otra frase que digo mucho es "Si Dios quiere", y nadie tampoco la entiende... Nuevamente vuelvo con las explicaciones, pero dudo que entiendan mucho cuando les explico... Gracias a Marc (gracias!!! no me canso de decirlo, eres el mejor!) descubrí los homólogos de estas frases en alemán: "Jederzeit" para "a tu orden", y "So Gott will" para "Si Dios quiere"... bien! :)

I'll begin with the cultural schocks of this week: when someone says "oh, nice earings!" and I say "at your order" and people stares at me like "What?!" hahaha! it's something totally cultural! Then I explain to them that in my country this is a common expression of politeness, bla bla...
Another thing I say a lot is "God's willing", and also, nobody understand... Again the explanations, but I doubt people understand when I explain... It's just cultural stuff! And thanks to Marc (my german teacher) you're the best! He taught me how to say this in german... "Jederzeit" and "So Gott will". Good. :)

Sigo... Los días aquí han estado muy agradables, no muy fríos, no muy cálidos... hoy empieza el otoño, veremos que trae con él...

So... The days have been so pleasant, not so cold, not so hot... today Fall begins, let's see what it brings.

Antes de ayer, a eso de las 9:00 AM (yo aún dormía) suena mi celular... lo tomo entre sueño y me dicen "Señora Santos, encontramos su maleta!" yo brinqué! Resuuuulta queeee, en Miami, el empleado que me atendió en el counter (lo recuerdo bien porque fue medio grosero conmigo, me estralló el pasaporte y me dijo 'búsqueme la visa') -era un latino, creo que cubano...-  pues él le puso el sello mal a la maleta, y la envió a Austria... si, mi maleta estuvo en Viena al menos! :P

The day before yesterday, around 9:00 (I was still sleeping) my cellphone rings... I take it and someone says "Miss Santos, we found your luggage!"... So, the story goes like this: in Miami, the employee who attended me on the counter (I remember him because he was kind of rude to me, he was latin - from Cuba I think...- the thing is, he put the wrong tag on my bag and sent it to Austria... Well, at least my bag was in Viena! :P

Me la enviaron ayer tempranito. Pudieron encontrarla por la colección en Blu Ray de Harry Potter que traía... alguien dijo "ahhh, pero esa maleta está reportada perdida en Alemania"..... Ya no voy a seguir escribiendo sobre esto!

They sent it yesterday morning. They could identify it because of the Blue Ray Harry Potter collection I had on it... someone said "ohh, this bag is reported as Missing in Germany"... I'm not writting about this anymore!

Ya pude arreglar mi closet!

Finally, I could arrange my closet!

Y bueno, encontré plátanos verdes luego de una ardua labor de inteligencia por parte de los estudiantes latinos aquí... Yo iba caminando en el súper, y los veo, y me devuelvo, y me restrego los ojos a ver si estoy viendo bien (ya me había pasado que había encontrado guineos verdes y me había emocionado)... los toco, los huelo, vuelvo y los reviso... SI, son PLATANOS! Increíble, aquí les llaman Kochbananen... Bueno, vengo a casa, me hago unos tostones y guardo el resto para hacerme un mangusito con cebolla, hmmm! solo pensarlo! bueno, a los dos días voy a buscar mis plátanos, y... SURPRISE! se maduraron en la cocina! Arrrg! Ya alguien me dio el truco de ponerlos en la nevera para que no se maduren... ahí están aún, estos días no he tenido deseos de plátanos maduros.

And well, I found plantains (green bananas or however they're called in english). It took the latin guys and me a couple of days to see where they were sold... I was walking on the supermarket, and i see them, and I walk back, and I scrubed my eyes because I don't believe what I'm seeing... I touch them, I smell them, I check them... YES! they are platanos! Amazing, they're called here "Kochbananen"... Well, I come back home and make myself tostones (see picture - there's no way I can translate this), and I store the rest of the platanos to make myself a Mangú (google it). Two days passes and I go to make Mangú and the platanos were yellow!!! (they need to be green to make Mangú)... Arrg! Someone told me to put them in the Refri so they won't go yellow... They're still there... I'm not in the mood for yellow platanos...

Otra cosa que me dio muchísima risa el otro día... mami me estaba explicando cómo hacer las habichuelas, y en una me dice "y pones tal cosa A FUEGO LENTO"... yo me quedé un rato pensando y analizando, y luego me estrallé de la risa... he aquí la razón:

Another thing that I laughed about a lot... Mom was explaining how to do something and then she told me something like "and then you put it on SLOW FIRE"... I thought for a while, analyzing, and then I just laughed... here is the reason why:

Las estufas son todas eléctricas... Sin excepción. Creo que es así en todo Europa, pero bueno... Aquí les dejo una foto de mi súper equipada y adorada cocina! (me encanta!) les he mencionado de la suerte que tuve? si, tuve mucha suerte cuando me asignaron este apartamento! Tengo de todo, microondas, máquina de cafe, tostadoras, horno tostador, otra tostadora, otra máquina de cafe, horno, todos los utensilios habidos y por haber, hasta una maquina para hacer pastas... en fin...

The stoves are all electrical... No exception. I think it's like this in whole Europe, I'm not sure... Well, here is a picture of my super equiped and beloved kitchen! (I love it!) I've told you I was really lucky when I got this appartment. I've got everything; microwave, coffee machine, toaster, oven, another toaster, another coffee machine, etc...

Con qué sigo? Ahh si! mis clases de alemán! ME ENCANTAN! Tenemos tres profesores: una lunes y martes, otra los miercoles, y otro jueves y viernes (el mejor!). Mis clases son dinámicas y divertidas (excepto los miércoles), mis compañeros son todos muy divertidos, hay una amplia gama de nacionalidades: China, Taiwán, Suecia, Finlandia, Rusia, Francia, España, Italia, México, Hungría, USA, Brasil, y claro, Erredé! Somos 20, o algo así! Nos llevamos todos muy bien!

What's next? ahh yes! my german classes! I LOVE THEM! We've got three teachers: one for Mondays and Tuesdays, another for Wednesdays, and another for Thrusdays and Fridays (the best!). My classes are dynamic and funny (except on Wednesdays), my classmates are so funny, and they're from everywhere: China, Taiwan, Sweeden, Finland, Russia, France, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Hungary, USA, Brasil, and of course, DR! We are like 20 or something like that! We all get along so well!

Ayer fuimos al Mercedes Benz Museum todos juntos, fue súper! Ver toda la historia automotriz desde el inicio, y no solo historia automotriz, también, según descendías de nivel, te iban mostrando los cuadros de los hechos mas reelevantes de la historia moderna mundial... Desde el hundimiento del Titanic, La revolución Rusa, el ascenso de los Nazi, La Segunda Guerra Mundial (esta parte me fascinó), La Guerra Fría, la construcción del Muro de Berlin, el asesinato de Kennedy, Los Beatles, la caída del Muro y de la U.R.S.S, la implementación del Euro... todo! Me encantó! Yesterday we went to the Mercedes Benz Museum, and it was super! Seeing all the automotive history from the beggining, and not only so, also the most reelevant events from modern history... From Titanic sinking, Russian Revolution, Nazi rising, WW2 (I loved this part), Cold War, the construction of the Wall of Berlin, Kennedy's assassination, The Beatles, the fall of Berlin Wall and U.S.S.R, Euro's implementation... everything! I loved it!
